Why Do I See More Roaches After Bombing?

After you’ve cleaned up and used an insect fogger for your cockroach problems, you probably don’t expect to see another one of these pests creeping through your kitchen.

But many clients ask us, “Why do I see more roaches after bombing?”

Keep reading to discover why you may still have cockroaches after a DIY pest control solution. We know these pests are tough, and Zunex is here to eliminate pesky cockroaches that stick around in your home!

What are Bug Bombs?

Many homeowners turn toward speedy solutions whenever they have an insect infestation. No one wants to live with bugs patrolling around as the lights turn off, so advertised “quick-kill” methods are popular.

These products are small pressurized cans or devices that quickly release a stream of pesticides into the air. The mist settles onto any open or uncovered surface, targeting the spaces pests may walk along.

While bug bombs can cover extensive areas quickly, these products can’t always reach the nooks and crannies where many insects regularly hide. Unless the cockroaches exit their hiding spots, the bug fogger will only impact those searching for food.

Besides their limited effectiveness, these options also carry serious dangers when misused. Inhaling the mist can cause severe breathing problems down the road.

Plus, insect foggers contain highly flammable chemicals that could easily cause a spark with many everyday household items or appliances. A fire may break out if your heater is on during treatment or if the mist settles on refrigerator cables.

Because of the safety concerns posed by these products, we highly recommend against using insect foggers. Instead, trust a professional pest control agency to remedy any lingering infestations.

Keeping your family safe is your top priority, and Zunex’s cockroach pest control services can swiftly rid your home of dangerous insects.

Why do I See More Roaches After Bombing?

If you’ve previously used a cockroach bomb and still see pests weeks later, your initial treatment may not have worked.

There are numerous reasons why cockroach fogging devices won’t permanently eliminate the pests in your home. To get rid of these pests, consider using proven pest control methods to reduce the number of insects you see.

Here are some reasons why you’re still finding cockroaches indoors!

The Product Didn’t Impact Hidden Roaches

Remember how bug bombs only saturate open surfaces? These products can coat your flooring, cabinets, furniture, and appliances, spreading the pesticide around spaces where insects may travel but leaving you with a mess to clean.

Unlike crack and crevice treatments, the mist can’t seep into open gaps or holes. Roaches aren’t commonly seen out and about.

These pests spend the day hiding away in their often hard-to-reach homes, only venturing out at night when it’s dark and there’s little to no movement inside the infested room. Usually, if you find one roaming around your home in broad daylight, you have a significant infestation.

If the mist can’t reach the hidden cockroaches, they’ll continue to thrive unabated. Foraging roaches may perish, but the rest of the population can keep breeding and reproducing more insects.

Baited poisons work better than cockroach bombs. These products are generally safer and can target all the roaches in your home. You can wipe out multiple at once whenever a roach interacts with the bait and returns it to the rest.

The Bug Bomb Was Ineffective

Not every pest control option is made the same; some work considerably better than others. You may see more roaches after bombing your home if the product isn’t strong enough to impact the pests.

Unfortunately, despite their dangers, your home may require more than one bug bomb to wipe out everything hiding inside. Usually, using more than one is frowned upon because of safety concerns, meaning you will still have trouble with roaches.

We don’t recommend using bug bombs, and we suggest you never use more than one at a time. However, your original treatment may have fallen flat if you’ve already utilized the product and haven’t seen any results after a few weeks.

Instead of using these options, consider contacting a pest control agency to keep roaches at bay.

New Eggs Have Hatched

Even if your bug bomb knocks out the general population of cockroaches, an infestation could continue if eggs hatch and grow into adults.

German cockroaches reproduce notoriously quickly, and each egg case can carry over 40 eggs at once! With a relatively short maturation period, these newly-hatched pests can breed new bugs within 60 days.

Unless the misty pesticide eliminates hidden eggs or nymphs, you’ll have a thriving infestation again within a month or two. Because they tend to stay hidden, you may not even realize the extent of the problem until much later.

Proper pest control methods focus on total eradication, meaning two or more treatments designed to eliminate adults and others to remove any growing young.

Your Home Isn’t the Source of the Infestation

If you live in an apartment or duplex, roaches can migrate from adjacent rooms into your space. Even if you don’t have an active infestation in your home, cockroaches nearby can spread out for more food.

Because their home base may be in another location or out of reach from the misty pesticide, you won’t eliminate any pests from your initial treatment.

Remember, even the cleanest home can suffer from roaches, and if your neighbors have them, it’s easy for an infestation to quickly spread and spiral out of control in your home or apartment.

Consider contacting a landlord or speaking with your neighbor if the roaches aren't directly living in your home. Pest control options will help, but you’ll have trouble keeping the pests away if they keep finding ways back inside.
