How to Identify an 

Mealworm

Dark mealworm adults are a dull black or very dark brown color. Their larvae grow up to about 1 1/4 of an inch in length and are smooth, cylindrical in shape and brownish to dark yellow in color.

Yellow mealworm adults are a shiny black to dark brown color. Their larvae grow up to 1 1/4 of an inch in length and are golden yellow in color with a smooth cylindrical shape.

Where do they come from?

The presence of dark or yellow mealworms indicate a lack of proper sanitation. Their eggs and larvae can cause gastrointestinal discomfort when ingested.

Where do they live?

Dark and Yellow mealworms lay eggs singly orin clusters in food sources. They prefer dark, damp and undisturbed environments. Their larvae are often seen migrating from infested areas.
